Overview
In this project, we will learn how to make Heart Shaped Serial LED Flasher Circuit using 555 Timer and a CD4017 decade counter. This electronics project is for your loved one like your girlfriend or boyfriend.
The 555 timer IC is the cheap, popular, and precise timing device used in various applications. It gets the name from the three 5KΩ resistors that are used to generate two comparator reference voltages. This IC is operated as a monostable, bistable or an astable multivibrator to produce a variety of applications.
Some of the advanced project built using 555 Timer LED Flasher circuit are:
Automatic LED Blinking Circuit
LED Chaser Circuit
Flashing Police Light LED Effect
The CD4017 is one of the most popular Decade Counter (Divided by 10 Counter). It is a 5 Stage Divide by 10 Johnson Counter with 10 Decoded outputs. It has a wide supply voltage range from 3V to 15V and is compatible with TTL. It has a medium speed of operation, typically 5Mhz. Its applications include industrial electronics, remote metering, automotive, medical electronics, instrumentation, and alarm systems.

Working of the 555 LED Flasher circuit:
555 timer IC is used here is in an astable operating mode which generates a continuous output in the form of square wave via pin 3. The output is then fed into the CD4017 decade counter which divides the counting into 10 different steps. Check the NE555 Timer Datasheet.
The potentiometer of 10k is used to change the duty cycle of the square wave and increase or decrease the LED blinking timing.
